From the president:

Imagine being able to work with an engineer at NASA and having the opportunity to specify a high performance plastics material that ends up on a roving device scouring the planet Mars searching for life.

How about being asked to provide an exotic grade of engineering grade plastic material that will be incorporated into a satellite that will be shot into space helping to prove Einstein's theory of relativity?

Providing quality critical, specialized plastic materials for vital components of the most advanced nuclear submarines in the world is not something that everyone is asked to do.

Modern Plastics helps save lives and property by helping architects and designers utilize materials such as bullet-resistant LEXGARD® sheet to safeguard public spaces, vehicles, and in military applications.

Can you imagine the satisfaction in knowing that the carefully lot controlled medical grade plastic products Modern Plastics provides are literally saving lives and improving the quality of lives for thousands of people throughout the world?

Then there are those moments where our plastic products are used in the most magical and inspirational ways at the world's largest and greatest theme park in central Florida.

All of these examples are really "solutions" that we're asked to provide each and every day at Modern Plastics. Solving problems, recommending materials, improving designs, addressing cost issues, and most importantly getting the right plastic product in our customer's hands on-time is where we excel by leaps and bounds.

True, from a pragmatic point of view, we are "plastic distributors", but really, we view ourselves as "supply chain leaders" –that is we transform supply chains into integrated value systems.

Recently, Modern Plastics was selected by a world-recognized manufacturer of automated door systems as their supplier of plastics used in the doors themselves and components of the doors.

Competition for the business was fierce, but in the end Modern Plastics was awarded this business for factors that had to do a lot more with "total cost and a distinct service advantage" than the typical factors associated with competitive bidding practices.

The advantages of doing business with Modern Plastics are evident from the onset, but they become even more apparent and advantageous as our working relationship develops.

Just ask some of the world's greatest companies that do business with Modern Plastics. Better yet, ask us how we can assist you and your business today.

DELRIN® possesses high tensile strength, creep resistance and toughness. It also exhibits low moisture absorption. It is chemically resistant to hydrocarbons, solvents and neutral chemicals. These properties along with its fatigue endurance make Acetal DELRIN® ideal for many industrial applications.

DELRIN®'s overall combination of physical, tribological and environmental properties make it ideal for many industrial wear and mechanical applications. Pump and valve components and parts exposed to a moist or wet environment are especially suited to being
manufactured from Acetal DELRIN®. Other common uses include electrical insulator parts, gears, bearings, bushings, rollers, and fittings.

DELRIN® offers these properties:

  • Good dimensional stability
  • Good wear and abrasion properties. With its low coefficient of friction and hard and resilient surface, Acetal DELRIN® is the material of choice in many wear applications.
  • High strength and stiffness properties
  • Low moisture absorption Acetal DELRIN® can operate in wet environments with little effect on performance or dimensions.
  • Excellent machinability
  • High fatigue endurance
  • Superior impact and creep resistance
  • Chemical resistance to fuels and solvents
  • Natural grade is FDA, NSF and USDA compliant

TECAMAX® SRP

From ENSINGER-HYDE Modern Plastics offers TECAMAX® SRP, a self-reinforcing thermoplastic, a polyparaphenyl copolymer material, which is based on Parmax® SRP from MPT. TECAMAX® SRP exhibits dimensional stability and scratch and abrasion resistance, and is very highly resistant to chemicals and solvents. It features excellent mechanical properties, even at cryogenic temperatures. Non-flammable and heat stable to 400 °C, TECAMAX® SRP is 200 to 800 percent stronger and more rigid than other unreinforced thermoplastics.

HEMSaw Bi-Function "CNC" Band Saw -Bridgeport

Modern Plastics has recently added a new, adjustable feed, bi-functional power Band Saw capable of cutting large diameter plastics rods and shapes with extremely close tolerance and precision. With adjustable blade speed, adjustable clamping pressure, flood coolant system and adjustable feed rate and cutting pressure any plastic material from the most fragile to the very hardest, most difficult to cut plastics.

Over the years, Modern Plastics has developed a set of proprietary techniques, guidelines and documented procedures for cutting each type of plastic materials. These techniques are unique not only for each type of plastic material but also for each individual piece of CNC power-cutting equipment utilized that deliver the finest, cleanest, closest tolerance cutting action possible.

In addition, these techniques and procedures have been developed to consider a myriad of factors such as the type of material, grade of material, sheet orientation, thickness of material, and other variances all in an effort to reduce the build up of internal stress of plastic materials. Plastic materials which are improperly cut will have increased stress levels, ragged edges and visible warpage resulting in material cracking and material failure during secondary machining operations.

Let the experts at Modern Plastics handle all of your plastic cutting requirements. We’ve not only got the equipment to do it, but we can do it faster, cheaper and with a high level of professional skill.
Medical Grade Plastic Tubing

Modern Plastics offers a wide range of fluoropolymers and specialized plastics with a history of successful medical device applications. Many of our extruded, heat shrink, and multi-lumen tubes have been chosen for their pure, smooth, non-toxic, non-allergenic properties, as well as their compatibility with human tissues and fluids.

For the medical device industry we offer PEEK™ extruded tubing. PEEK™ tubing is an ideal replacement for stainless steel in medical applications, and is often used as a rigid tube in the medical field for minimally invasive surgery, such as stent delivery, because of its weight, biocompatibility, high tensile strength, and lubricity. It offers a high continuous use temperature - 480º F (249º C), is chemically inert, biocompatible, and has a melting point of 621º F (327º C).

PEEK™ withstands pressures up to 5,000 psi (345 Bar) and offers a better weight to strength ratio than steel. Thinwall PEEK™ is more flexible and can be cut to length with a razor blade. Available in amorphous and crystalline grades, PEEK™ extruded tubing is thermoformable, offers excellent purity, impact, and wear resistance, and is compatible with metal sensitive compounds, and offers exceptional torsional stability.

Click here for a PEEK™ .pdf properties sheet.

Modern Plastics also offers PFA (Perfluoroalkoxy fluorocarbon) extruded tubing. This material maintains a mechanical strength at high temperatures, with a maximum working temperature of 500º F (260º C). Its excellent solvent resistance, low gas permeability, combined attributes of PTFE and FEP, and superior high purity properties make it the choice for fluid handling applications requiring an extremely low level of chemical extractables.

Offering a smoother surface texture than FEP and PTFE, PFA is also not attacked by organic acids, anhydrides, bases, halogens, or metal salt solutions. Esters, chlorinated compounds, amines, ethers, ketones, aldehydes, aliphatic hydrocarbons, alcohols, and other polymer solvents have little effect on PFA. PFA is gamma, ETO, e-beam and autoclave sterilizable, offers a flame rating of UL 94 VO (VW-1), and offers a limiting oxygen index greater than 95.
