From the Industry Experts:

KYDEX® THERMOPLASTIC SHEET

KYDEX® thermoplastic sheet is a family of products made by Kleerdex Company, LLC, offering outstanding thermoformability for high-visibility applications where flame retardance, durability, impact, and consistent color performance are required. In applications ranging from a wide range of medical device enclosures (imaging, diagnostic, hospital beds, etc.), rail and aircraft interiors (as in folding tray tables and other aircraft seat components), to kiosk and sign housings and store fixtures, KYDEX® thermoplastic sheet meets and exceeds designers’ expectations. Go to: Kydex.com.

With a wide assortment of grades to fulfill various demands for regulatory compliance and other specification needs, Kleerdex offers a wide range of standard and custom sheet sizes, colors, decorative effects (granites, woodgrains, metallics), textures, and gauges from .028” to .500”. Kleerdex’s Tech support is highly acclaimed. KYDEX® T is often referred to as the pressure-forming material of choice, with impact resistance comparable to polycarbonate, unsurpassed wall-thickness distribution, and great chemical resistance and cleanability. Pressure-forming is a thermoforming technique which provides a level of sharp detail in finished parts normally only associated with injection molding, but with dramatically lower tooling costs. This process lends itself well to the needs of medical device manufacturers, who especially appreciate our long experience in award-winning hospital and clinical applications. KYDEX® thermoplastic sheet products for aircraft interiors are available in 34 standard colors and over 2000 developed colors, 10 surface textures and thicknesses from .028" to .500" (.71-12.7mm), enabling you to satisfy both the functional and aesthetic requirements of any aircraft interior.

Since KYDEX® thermoplastic sheet products are also resistant to a wide range of concentrated chemicals, they can be cleaned safely and repeatedly using harsh cleansers with no staining or fading.

RECOMMENDED GRADES:

Super tough, durable KYDEX® 100, a proprietary alloy sheet, brings new dimensions to thermoformers in: formability, rigidity, breakage resistance, chemical resistance and fire retardancy. This high performance thermoplastic sheet is available in a wide range of standard and customer colors, textures, and sheet sizes.

KYDEX® T is a proprietary thermoplastic sheet that is cost competitive with fire retardant ABS/PVC (FR-ABS) formulations but with significantly higher impact strength and extensibility. Unlike FR-ABS, because KYDEX® T is less hygroscopic, KYDEX® T typically does not require pre-drying; offers superior impact; more uniform forming with less wall thinning; and offers significantly greater resistance to a broad range of corrosive chemicals and cleaning solutions.

KYDEX® 6565 is a proprietary, high performance thermoplastic sheet that meets all fire retardancy requirements set forth in Federal Aviation Regulations 25.853 paragraphs (a) and (d) (old (c)) including low heat release (65/65) in the OSU rate of heat release test. Its excellent properties make it the ideal material to form two-and-three-dimensional aircraft components.

MEDICAL APPLICATIONS: KYDEX® 100, KYDEX® T

Outstanding physical properties and fire ratings, together with a wide selection of forming methods and specialized grades, explain why KYDEX® thermoplastic sheet is the preferred material for high performance medical products. From thermoformed equipment components to membrane pressed or laminated medical building products to sanitary ceiling panels, specialized grades of KYDEX® thermoplastic sheet offer the durability, cleanability, and versatility required to exceed the most demanding application requirements.
  • Medical equipment housings
  • Mobile carts
  • Seating
  • Trays
  • Tables
  • Work surfaces
  • Hospital bed footboards, headboards
  • Orthotics and prosthetics
  • Ceiling panels

ELECTRICAL APPLICATIONS: KYDEX® 100AS, KYDEX® GND

KYDEX® conductive sheet products are formulated for manufacturers of electrical and electronic components and original equipment which require conductive housings, material handling totes, bins, floor mats, and other related items to protect against electrostatic discharge (ESD). To this end, manufacturers often utilize metal housings, thermoplastic housings lined with foil, or thermoplastic housings that contain a conductive additive, to route potentially harmful currents away from sensitive components to a ground connection. KYDEX® conductive sheet can offer lower cost and easier recycling than metal and foil-lined housings, and superior formability and mechanical properties to other filled thermoplastics. Unlike many other conductive sheet products, KYDEX® conductive sheet retains its conductance even after thermoforming or membrane pressing, making it superior for a broad variety of three-dimensional components as well as fabricated and laminated products.

RECOMMENDED GRADES:

KYDEX® 100AS, a proprietary alloy sheet, brings new dimensions to anti-static protective materials in: formability, rigidity, breakage resistance, and chemical resistance. This sheet is available in standard and custom gauges from .028" (.71mm) and up, in many distinctive textures and hundreds of colors. Unlike other anti-static thermoplastic sheets, KYDEX® 100AS retains its anti-static properties even after thermoforming.

KYDEX® GND is a proprietary thermoplastic sheet that offers a surface resistance of 105 Ohms/square, while retaining the excellent forming properties of KYDEX®. KYDEX® GND offers more uniform forming with less wall thinning, greater detail, and significantly greater resistance to a broad range of corrosive chemicals and cleaning solutions.
