Thermally Bonded Fluoropolymer Manifolds

Currently, OEMs that require extreme chemical-resistant and high heat-resistant multilayer manifolds must rely on drilled, glued and plugged manifolds that require gaskets and screws to hold the manifold together. Eastern Plastics, Incorporated (EPI) has a new approach.

For the first time, EPI is now offering a new custom Perfluoroalkoxy (PFA) multilayer manifold that resists corrosion and heat in aggressive chemistry applications better than other materials. PFA material combines properties of PTFE and FEP and out-performs both materials in continuous use testing.

Instrument manufacturers can greatly improve the performance of their products with EPI’s multilayer PFA manifolds. The unique multilayer design utilizes a proprietary bonding process, developed by EPI, that allows internal fluid paths and chambers without the use of solvents, adhesives, or gaskets. The integrated fluid paths minimize connections and solution volumes while also eliminating leak points. These features combine to lower assembly and manufacturing costs, reduce operating and service costs, and improve user satisfaction.

EPI is now working with instrument manufacturers to create custom PFA manifolds for them. The manifolds can include surface mount valves, pumps, sensors, fittings, and other components. The PFA material is translucent, which allows viewing of the fluidic channel.

Instrument manufacturers now have the ability to specify the company’s PFA manifolds with chemically resistant valves and other surface mount features that bring them an integrated fluid control “plug and play” assembly. The company also makes multilayer bonded manifolds from other thermoplastic materials. PFA manifolds are the latest custom product from Eastern Plastics, a company that continually offers new solutions to instrument manufacturers.
