Letter from the President

ATTENTION TO DETAIL

I remember it as if it were yesterday, but it was actually several years ago when we learned an extraordinary lesson. Modern Plastics had been actively pursuing a large Fortune 500 company for quite some time and after a final sales presentation to several staff members, the Senior Buyer, Robert Van Suren, provided the words we had worked so hard to hear; "we've selected Modern Plastics as our supplier."

Mr. Van Suren told us to expect an overnight package with a variety of required vendor information that had to be filled out by Modern Plastics and returned back to him within two weeks.

Not wanting to wait the two weeks once we had received the 20-page vendor document, we had several staff members at Modern Plastics meticulously scrutinize the documents.

We checked for spelling, neatness and that the information requested was provided and 100% accurate. Once we had the document cross-checked several times, we were satisfied that it was in perfect order and ready to send back to Mr. Van Suren.

We were proud of the fast turnaround of the paperwork and eager to hear back from Mr. Van Suren. However, after a few days and then another week or so later, we had not heard back from the buyer. I personally wanted to make a call to the buyer but also knew that Mr. Van Suren was a busy person and did not like to be disturbed unnecessarily. We waited another two weeks when I received a voice mail.

On the voicemail was a message from Mr. Van Suren and it went like this: "Bing, thank you for your package as I just received it today. As you know, we have thousands of employees at our company and I would have received your package sooner if my full name was on your mailing label.

Instead of addressing the package to "Robert Van Suren," your company sent the package out "Attention Bob." Bing, we have thousands of employees and it's a miracle our company was able to get the package over to me. I'm not so sure what that says about the attention to detail at your company."

You can only imagine my dismay as I quickly called Mr. Van Suren and apologized for the embarrassing situation we had created.

Five years later, we are the sole plastics supplier for this company and have earned a S.T.S. supplier status (Ship to Stock). This supplier designation means that our quality and on-time delivery has been perfect and our shipments free to bypass inspection and go directly to the manufacturing floor.

What an important lesson our company learned that day, and Mr. Van Suren could not have said it better: "Attention to Detail." Those words have never left us and it is something that is driven home everyday at Modern Plastics.

Such a simple concept, isn't it? Paying attention to those little things that separates an average company from a great company.

Trust that we are paying close "attention to details" for our customers.

Sincerely,

Bing J. Carbone,
President

TECAMAX® SRP

TECAMAX SRP

From ENSINGER-HYDE, Modern Plastics offers TECAMAX® SRP, a self-reinforcing thermoplastic, a polyparaphenyl copolymer material which is based on Parmax® SRP from MPT. TECAMAX® SRP exhibits dimensional stability and scratch and abrasion resistance and is very highly resistant to chemicals and solvents. It features excellent mechanical properties, even at cryogenic temperatures. Non-flammable and heat stable to 400°C, TECAMAX® SRP is 200 to 800 percent stronger and more rigid than other unreinforced thermoplastics.

Video 1 - Acetylene Torch Test - TECAMAX® does not burn!

Video 2 - Ease of Machining - On the lathe, TECAMAX® does not blister or degrade.

Video 3 - Ease of Machining - TECAMAX® can be milled aggressively without warping.

Easily machined with conventional tools to the tightest tolerances, TECAMAX® SRP is suitable for manufacturing flanges, pipes, bearings, and gears, where lightness is important, as well as stability and precision. TECAMAX® SRP is the preferred material in a variety of medical technology, aeronautics and space electronics, automotive, and mechanical engineering applications.

Properties:

  • Outstanding wear resistance
  • High mechanical properties
  • Non-galling surface
  • Good chemical resistance
  • Good temperature resistance

HYDLAR® Z GRADES

Hydlar® Z - Hydlar® Z is the basic, most common grade available. This Nylon material with Kevlar® aramid fibers only. Hydlar® Z is NOT FDA, USDA, or 3A-Dairy compliant.

Hydlar® ZF - Effective in January 2006, Hydlar® ZF (FDA, USDA and 3A-Dairy compliant) material is no longer being produced . The manufacturer of the resin has changed the formulation and it is no longer FDA compliant. Check for availability of the "ZF" grade of compliant material before proceeding.

Hydlar® ZT - Hydlar® ZT has the added benefit of a small amount of PTFE added for increased lubricity (lower friction) resulting in improved wear resistance.

Hydlar® ZM - Hydlar® ZM has the added benefit of a small amount of Molybdenum Disulphide added for improved surface hardness and increased lubricity (lower friction) resulting in improved wear resistance.

Trans-Stat® Clear Anti-Static Chairmat

Anti-Static Chairmat

Trans-Stat® absorbs harmful static electricity the moment an operator steps on the mat, and then disperses the charge safely away from sensitive equipment. The following is a brief explanation of how the Trans-Stat® works along with definitions of many of the common terms used when discussing static electricity.

Static electricity is exactly what the name implies - electrical change at rest. This electrical charge is a transfer of electrons that occurs as a result of the sliding, rubbing or separating of the material that is a prime generator of electrostatic voltages.

The Trans-Stat®, having electrostatic properties, effectively and safely dissipates any charge induced on the surface of the material.
