Ultem® 2100 PEI, 10% Glass Reinforced (polyetherimid), Rod -as manufactured by Ensinger-Hyde is an extruded 10% glass reinforced polyetherimid. It is an amorphous, high-performance polymer with exceptional flame and heat resistance. It performs continuously to 340° F (171°C), making it ideal for high strength/high heat applications, and those requiring consistent dielectric properties over wide frequency.

Ultem® 2100 and 2200 products are made to order.  Please contact Modern Plastics at  1-800-243-9696 for estimated delivery date.

Ultem® 2100 is hydrolysis resistant, highly resistant to acidic solutions and capable of withstanding multiple autoclaving cycles. Ultem is commonly machined into parts for reusable medical devices, analytical instrumentation, electrical/electronic insulators and a variety of structural components requiring high strength and rigidity at elevated temperatures.

Ultem® 2100 provides greater rigidity and improved dimensional stability while maintaining many of the useful characteristics of unfilled Ultem (Ultem® 1000). Ultem commonly is machined into parts for reusable medical devices, analytical instrumentation, electrical/electronic devices and a variety of structural components requiring high strength and rigidity at elevated temperatures.

Note:  Ultem® resin is manufactured by SABIC Inovative Plastics.

Note on Ultem® 2100 Color: The natural color of glass-filled Ultem's run from a beige to greenish brown or shades of gray and cannot be guaranteed from lot to lot.

Engineering specifications for Ultem® 2100 Sheet Products are:

  • Tensile Strength – 16,600 psi
  • Compressive Strength – 22,000 psi
  • Water Absorption  – 0.21%
  • Deflection Temperature @66 PSI, 1/4" - 410° deg. F
  • Resistant to Alcohols, Inorganic Salt Solutions, Steam, Alkalies (weak), Acids (weak), Continuous sunlight, Ethers
  • Flammability rating UL94:V0
  • See Data Sheet for detailed and additional information

Engineering Notes:

Since Ultem® is an amorphous material, selection of appropriate non-aromatic coolants during machining is important. Care must also be used in selecting adhesives and designing press fit components to avoid stress cracking. Ultem is not designed for use in bearing and wear applications. For expert machining and bonding of Ultem parts contact Eastern Plastics, Inc.
